UMT-ORIC Organizes Policy Seminar on Blue Economy of Pakistan

UMT Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) organized a Policy Seminar on Blue Economy of Pakistan in collaboration with Pakistan Naval War College at the Seminar Hall on April 3, 2019.  The policy seminar is a part of the 8th Invention to Innovation Summit, Punjab which is being held in Lahore.   

The aim of the seminar was to make academia aware about the concept of blue economy and inform them about the challenges related to it. Ibrahim Hasan Murad, President ILM Trust and UMT, Dr Muhammad Aslam, Rector UMT and Abid H K Shirwani, DG UMT, welcomed the Chief Guest, Ali Haider Zaidi, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs and other prominent guests which included Dr S M Shahzad SI (M), Pakistan Naval War College (PNWC), Dr Muhammad Azam Kakar, Director Planning and Development (P&D), Balochistan and Dr Rashid Aftab, Director Riphah Policy Institute.  

 

 

Ali Haider Zaidi thanked UMT for its warm hospitality and highlighted the fact that we need to take rapid actions towards investigating various opportunities by providing a platform where research-based solutions can take place to boost the country's economy.  Dr S M Shahzad SI (M), PNWC outlined the introduction of Blue Economy with reference to Pakistan and highlighted career opportunities available for students. Dr Rashid Aftab stated numerous investment opportunities offered by Pakistan Navy whereas the case study of Singapore as Blue Economy success story was highlighted through visual presentations.

The seminar concluded on question-answer session followed by refreshments and a group photograph. UMT follows the Triple Helix Model and always invites academia, industry and government sector to collaborate and work towards the betterment of the country. There will also be an exhibition on blue economy concepts in the Invention to Innovation Summit Expo.
