Role of Women and Girls in Science and Technology

Dr Sammia Shahid (Dean ORIC) was honored to be guest speaker at a Seminar titled, “Role of Women and Girls in Science & Technology” hosted by the Department of Chemistry, GC University Lahore on 11th February, 2021. Vice Chancellor GC University Lahore Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi and Dean of Life Sciences/Chairperson Department of Chemistry GCU Prof Dr Ahmad Adnan warmly welcomed Dr. Sammia Shahid and acknowledged her as a role model for young girls in Science & Technology.

 In order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution  declaring 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This year’s Theme of this day was "Beyond the Borders: Equality in Science for Society". Science and gender equality are both vital for the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals. Over the past 15 years, the global community has made a lot of effort in inspiring and engaging women and girls in science. This day was celebrated to recognize the critical role, women and girls play in science and technology.
