Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Rector UMT, Shares Plans to Reshape the Future of UMT

Sunday, April 03 2016

Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Rector UMT, said that deans and directors are real agents of change who are capable of putting the University on the road to progress, faculty development and overall growth as an institution. The School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSS&H) at UMT is a financially vibrant organ of the University that under deanship of Prof Dr Abdul Hameed has grown tremendously. The same expectations are being aroused with the new dean Dr Hafeez who would take this School to peak of success. “Quality research is our recognition and I can see UMT in future leading all public and private sector institutions into ground-breaking research. It is time to make an impact through research, quality teaching, innovation and resource mobilization.”

The Rector emphasized that all PhDs serving in the university must ensure publication of at least three research articles per year in HEC recognized journals. Dr Hasan highly appreciated efforts of Prof Dr Abdul Hameed and assigned him new task as Dean, School of Advanced Studies (SAS). He said credit goes to SSS&H and Dr Abdul Hameed for producing the very first PhD of UMT through this School.

The Rector also announced that Dr Hafeez would take charge as the new dean of SSS&H while Captain Imran has been appointed as the new Director, Institute of Aviation Studies. He also appointed Prof Dr A R Kausar as in-charge of cultivating overall research culture in UMT by advising MPhil and PhD students plus teachers as to how quality in research could be attained, and synergies within doctoral programs be developed. The Rector said that the single agenda given to Dr A R Kausar is that he would introduce world-class practices of research and involve UMT faculty. “We need full time dedicated researchers in MPhil and PhD programs and expect our PhDs carry out quality research in their respective fields.”

The Rector's speech pointed out a policy that reshapes the future of UMT. Researchers but not teachers need to be included as faculty members in order to find out remedies of Pakistan’s social, political and economic problems. UMT under the visionary leadership of Dr Murad is on the track to bring real change in academia connecting it with industry and government institutions.
