His Excellency Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, said that it is a privilege to be among the future leaders of the country. Graduation marks the beginning of a lifelong journey of self-fulfillment through pursuit of professional excellence. He commended the role of educational institutions like UMT in pursuing the sacred cause of education.
The Minister elaborated that the advent of technology has transformed the pursuit of knowledge. However, technology, like any other tool, would yield its true value depending on the purpose for which it is used. Evidence-based knowledge is the key to success. Advances in technology have brought changes in the way we acquire knowledge collectively and individually. The battles of today and tomorrow will be fought in the minds of tech savvy youth like you. He said that you have the ability and responsibility to play a leading role in the future. Those of you who go abroad for higher studies or employment should act as brand ambassadors for your country. Those who choose to stay back should set new records of hard work and excellence in their chosen fields.
Explaining the development focus of the present government, the Minister added that the government is committed to the ideal of investing in human capital through ensuring quality of education for socio-economic prosperity. According to global observers, Pakistan is a pivotal state and as such, has a key role to play in regional peace. Through consistent efforts and sacrifices, we have defeated the face of terrorism; even as peace and security return, the national action plan is being implemented with full vigor.
Naya Pakistan, the Minister added, is poised to assume a great role at international level. Pakistan is the 6th most populous country with the 3rd largest English speakers. Nine million Pakistanis make up the 6th largest diaspora. Pakistan is at the crossroads on South Asia, Central Asia, China and the Middle East. This gives us great strategic importance. However, concerted efforts are being made to put the economy on a sustainable path of progress.
