Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization

The Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) is set up at UMT under the guidelines of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). ORIC is mandated to facilitate high-quality research process and its commercialization in the University. ORIC deals with research training (faculty/staff/students), planning, execution, support, IPRs, technology transfer to develop industry-academia linkages and provide an appropriate mechanism for the process of commercialization.

The main objective of ORIC is to develop, expand, enhance and manage the university's research programs and to link their research activities directly to the educational, social and economic priorities of the university and its broader community. Besides this, ORIC-UMT is also responsible for assuring that the quality of research reflects the highest international standards and advances the stature of the university internationally.

Some other objectives are:
To promote purpose based research at UMT

  • To build capacity of researchers for quality research
  • To link research with industry and society and to Improve and strengthen university-industry linkages
  • To develop an enabling environment for applied research in UMT
  • To Promote entrepreneurship, technology-transfer and commercialization activities which improve and support the economy
  • To support the strategic research directions and policies of universities
  • To Improve the integration of research and education at all levels of the institution
  • To translate research into public benefits
  • To promote and improve multi-disciplinary research initiatives


  • Identification of need based research for UMT faculty and students
  • Identification of stakeholders as research partners for UMT faculty and students
  • Exploring financial opportunities and support possibilities for UMT research
  • Facilitating in development and transfer of research output into end user
