1st Roundtable Conference with Alumni

Academic Quality Improvement Cell (AAQIC) / QEC organized a one-day conference titled: Roundtable conference with alumni : Leading the Corporate World as UMT Ambassadors

The major objectives of the conference include strengthening Alumni life-long relationships and engagement with their Alma-mater, to incorporate opinion and suggestions in the pursuits of quality improvement initiatives, instilling the spirit of giving back to community and alumni contribution to the promotion of brand imaging and the reputation of UMT.

Alumni from different professions including academia and industry participated in the conference and shared their viewpoints regarding the contemporary challenges in the employment sector and mandatory skills which are being demanded in the industry. Some of the alumni were the ILM students before the Charter of UMT who expressed their emotional and nostalgic feelings with UMT and appreciated the vision of Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad which is now being cascaded by the top management. They also tributed their teachers’ especially Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad (Saheed) and Mr. Abid Shirwani (DG UMT) for their good teaching skills, sense of punctuality and leadership skills. The Alumni also appreciated the role of Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) in UMT for providing a platform for communication and building strong relations with UMT Alumni throughout the world.

Director AAQIC briefed the Alumni about the recent achievements of UMT including excellent performance in international rankings such as Times Higher Education(THE) World University Rankings, QS Asian University Rankings, UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, THE Impact Rankings, THE Awards Asia, Globethics University Ranking (GUR), scholarships schemes for Alumni, improved position in the Annual Performance Assessment of QECs and a large network of Alumni comprising of 31000+ students in 4o countries.

Some Alumni said the institutions should have less commercial approach towards students and instill the elements of honesty, integrity and tolerance among students for the betterment of society in general and country overall. They emphasized on the need of knowledge management, communication skills, problem solving skills, ethics and values, analytical skills, time management and a balance between personal and professional life. The alumni suggested that there should be a close relation between academia and industry and offer their services including career counselling, grooming and mentorship facilities to students in order to utilize their full potentials. The alumni also said that the dynamics of current era are changing so rapidly that the universities should impart modern knowledge and skills to prepare students for the future.

Alumni appreciated the UMT initiative for reunion and showed willingness not only to join future events but also desired to get involved in their schools’ activities to share their experiences with the junior fellows.

Director AAIQIC being the moderator of the conference extended heartfelt gratitude to the participants on behalf of the University of Management and Technology and appreciated their valuable participation/suggestions. He also thanked the Office of Alumni (OAR) for coordinating this activity with AAQIC. In the end, the participants were awarded certificates of participation followed by lunch.
