Dr Asif Raza

Dr Asif Raza, had a distinguished career with Pakistan Air Force and retired as Air Vice Marshall before joining National University of Science and Technology (NUST) where he served for almost thirteen years at various positions. He retired as Pro-Rector of NUST and joined University of Management and Technology (UMT) on October 4, 2021.

Born on 16th January, 1956, Dr. Asif Raza did his MSc (Electronics) from Southampton University, UK. He joined Pakistan College of Aeronautical Engineering as an Associate Professor (Electronics) in 1984 and remained such till 2008 during which he also completed his Ph.D. (Communication & Electronic Systems Engineering) from Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics, China in 1998. In 2008, he was appointed as Director General, Research Centre of Modeling & Simulation in National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST). In 2009 he was appointed Pro-Rector (Academics & Research) in NUST. In 2013 he was appointed Pro-Rector (Academics), a position which he retained till 2021.

During his service in PAF, he worked as a faculty member at PAF College of Aeronautical Engineering, a premier institution of the country and the constituent college of National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). He also has extensive exposure of working on high-tech equipment including aircrafts, radars and communication & navigation systems. He also brings with him vast experience of international projects and contracts. He has also served as Director General, Research Centre, Modeling & Simulation, Pro-Rector (Academics & Research) and Pro-Rector (Academics) in NUST. He has served as Pro Rector (Academics) for about 12 years. He has focused on aligning the academic policies of NUST in accordance with the International best practices and ensured that the existing and new programs were made relevant to requirements of the market. He has also given special attention to enforcing quality enhancement measures to achieve highest academic standards. During his tenure NUST evolved into a prestigious engineering institution and was ranked amongst the top 400 Universities of the world, as per QS Ranking.

He is a member of IEEE (The Institution of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, USA), Member Institute of Engineers Pakistan (MIE Pak) and Member Pakistan Engineering Council (Professional Engineer). He has been conferred with the awards of Hilal-e-Imtiaz (M) and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (M).
