Born on 11th April, 1952, Dr. Muhammad Aslam did his MSC (Physics) and MSC (Nuclear Technology) from Quaid-e-Azam University.
He joined Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) in 1976 as a Faculty member and remained such till
2003 during which he also completed his Ph.D. (Nuclear Engineering) from Purdue University, USA in 1989.
In 2003, he was appointed as the Rector of PIEAS, a position which he retained till 2016.
He has actively taught at postgraduate level a wide variety of subjects including Radiation Detection, Radiation Protection, Applied Mathematics,
Statistics, Materials Science, Engineering Alloys, Fracture Mechanics, Degradation & Failure of Materials,
Advanced Techniques of Materials Processing, Super-alloys, Ceramics, Composites etc.
He has contributed proficiently to as many as 25 publications, mostly, related to metallurgy and materials engineering. He is the recipient of two eminent international fellowships, DAAD and David Ross. Other professional experiences include membership of “National Committee (Think Tank) on Materials and New Materials”,
“National Curriculum Review Committee (Metallurgy & Materials Eng.)” and editorial board of acclaimed journal, “The Nucleus”.
Under Dr. Aslam’s leadership, PIEAS was ranked by HEC (Higher Education Commission) 1st in “Engineering and Technology” in 2006, 2010 and 2013. Subsequently,
PIEAS was ranked by QS Asian University Rankings 1st in Pakistan in 2014 and 2015.
Finally, in view of Dr. Aslam’s outstanding contributions to the promotion of education in engineering and applied sciences, he was awarded “Sitara-e-Imtiaz” on 23rd March, 2013 by the President of Pakistan. Dr. Muhammad Aslam officially joined UMT as its second Rector on 22nd May, 2017.
