Transport, Mines & Minerals, and Livestock and Dairy Development
Government of the Punjab

Livestock and Dairy Development accounts for 15% of the province’s GDP. Punjab produces 62% of the country’s milk, 43% of beef, 32% of mutton and 75% of poultry. The Ministry is responsible for animal health, breed improvement, research, vaccination, extension services, providing capacity building programs for livestock farmers and vets, and handling public complaints through a toll-free helpline. Furthermore, they work towards preserving and developing livestock genetic resources and manage livestock production at government farms located on 75,000 acres.

The Transport Department focuses on legislation, transport policy, and planning. He oversees the 250 million ridership operation, regulation, and establishment of the Mass Transit Systems in the province like Orange Line Metro Train and Metro Buses in Multan, Lahore and Rawalpindi. The department handles route permits, fare, traffic speeds, parking, and halting places. They conduct inspections of public service vehicles, manage compensation in accident cases, and administer policies regarding student concessions and nationalization of road transport. Additionally, they oversee the certification of roadworthy vehicles, maintain public bus stands, and manage budgetary and administrative matters.

Mines & Minerals Department is responsible for $6 Trillion in assets, conducting legislation, policy formulation, and planning related to the development and exploration of mineral resources like clay, limestone, salt, iron ore, copper and etc. collect rents, royalties, and fees from concessionaires, rehabilitate mining areas, and enforce environmental standards. Additionally, they digitize and disseminate mineral data, promote mines and minerals development, and ensure the welfare of mine workers. The department also plays a crucial role in marketing minerals.

The minister oversaw an Annual Development Program worth Rs 100 Billion, Foreign Funded World Bank Projects worth $1 Billion, 118 cattle markets, parking services, street lights in addition to offering a wide range of vital services – including but not limited to the providing urban or rural infrastructure, zoning and master planning, land use control, water supply, sanitation and conservancy, classification, declassification or reclassification of commercial or residential areas and markets, provision of death, birth, marriage certificates, maintenance and development of expressways, bridges, flyovers, public roads, streets, foot paths, traffic signals and pavements.
