Wednesday, March 02 2016

An innovation exhibition followed by a summit was jointly held by University of Management and Technology (UMT), Pakistan Science Foundation, and University of the Punjab respectively under the aegis of the Office of Research Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) - a research organ of UMT and PU functioning for the last many years. More than 100 projects and products based on science and technology were presented for exhibition followed by recently designed model of a solar plane by UMT students. Around 500 indigenous technologies made by young scientists and faculty members were set up.

Addressing the summit, Rector UMT Prof Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad said that Pakistan is rich in all resources; with a strong will, we could make headway in all fields of life including science and technology. He said that there is no scarcity of talent and great minds in Pakistan and we can bring a change in science and technology including all other spheres of life. He said that research done in other countries of the world receives 70% financial support but here in Pakistan, even the most important sector of science and technology has been working without any government patronage. Dr Murad emphasized to introduce a comprehensive policy on research and recommended that funds should be allocated for research from school, college and  university levels.

Vice chancellor Punjab University Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran highly appreciated the efforts of Abid HK Shirwani, Director General UMT, for giving and implementing the idea of “invention to innovation.”

It is to be noted that the next phase of the exhibition and prize distribution ceremony shall be held at UMT Campus.
