UMT-SGS Organizes Course on Understanding the Causes and Resolution of Terrorism

The School of Governance and Society (SGS) has organized a 5-day workshop in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Terrorism Research Initiative (TRI) on ‘Understanding the Causes and Resolution of Terrorism Course’ to enhance security through collaborative learning.  The workshop has been arranged for national and international participants at Faletti’s Hotel from January 30-Febuaray 3, 2017.

 

 

Abid H K Shirwani, DG UMT, delivered inaugural speech on behalf of Dr Hasan Murad Sohaib. He warmly welcomed all national and international guests, resource persons and speakers. He said that Pakistan is one of the countries, which has been  badly hit by terrorism. According to some estimates, more than 50 thousand people have lost their lives to terrorism, and socio-economic development and infrastructure of Pakistan has also been adversely affected. He said that UMT is honored to be a pioneer of arranging the series of Terrorism Courses in Pakistan. He appreciated that SGS recognized the importance of this critical knowledge gap and acknowledged the vision of Rahat ul Ain, Director SGS, who took initiative step for introducing first structured course back in 2015 on ‘Understanding Terrorism and Counter Terrorism Course.’

 

 

This is the third course in the series of terrorism studies learning so far organized by UMT. Aforementioned course is being graced by the knowledgeable lectures of renowned scholars, academicians, analysts and practitioners from around the world. It explores the entire range of issues related to terrorism specially the causes of generating it, methodologies to analyze the threat and the approaches in resolving terrorism.
