The former ambassador to China and envoy to the UN Muhammad Masood Khan said that scientists look at the universe with a different angle and discover new things for the wellbeing of humanity. Citing China as an example, he said China realizes that agriculture is important but it focuses on industry and same is the case with other developed countries of the world that tend to focus on industry, innovation and on technology. He was delivering a lecture on 'Science, Technology and Diplomacy' at the UMT Campus. A good number of students, faculty, media persons, politicians and scientists attended the lecture that was organized by UMT Press.

The former ambassador said people held misconception about diplomacy and diplomats thinking that they are liars but that’s not true at all. Diplomats do have credibility and diplomacy is all about bringing nations together and highlighting country’s problems. What is sustainable human development? Mr. Khan said that science and technology is actually sustainable human development that is playing a key role in developing cultural, public and economic diplomacy and we as human beings are benefitting from it because there is strong correlation between diplomacy and science and technology.

The former amabassador said that Rector UMT Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad is a great visionary leader and an icon of inspiration who has created a great institution to serve the nation and provide talented manpower to the country. “The growth of UMT as an institution in such a short span of time is very impressive; UMT covers all aspects of imparting education of contemporary sciences especially science and technology”, said Masood Khan.

In his concluding remarks, Rector UMT Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad said that we at UMT are committed in imparting quality education in science and technology and our departments of physics, chemistry, mathematics and IT are producing best leaders of these fields. He said setting up earth sciences and space sciences schools at UMT were under consideration and soon they will be functioning. Dr Murad said that after establishing South Asian Triple Helix Association (SATHA) at UMT, we are bringing all government and private sector universities under one platform for sustainable human development. “Science, technology and Diplomacy are tenets for a real development and our universities must try to bridge up gap lying ahead of technological and scientific revolution in the country,” concluded Dr. Hasan.
