Workshop on Olympic Movement/Olympism Held at UMT

A Workshop on Olympic Movement/Olympism was arranged by the Office of Participants Affairs UMT in collaboration with Pakistan Olympic Association. The workshop was organized to celebrate the International Olympics day that focuses on encouraging people to stay healthy and fit.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob, Vice President POA, Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, Secretary General POA, Muhammad Jahangir, Deputy Secretary General POA, Parvaiz Ahmed, Secretary General Pakistan Gymnastic Federation, Usman Ahmed, Secretary General Pakistan Fencing Federation, Ahmer Mallick, Secretary General Pakistan Table Tennis Federation, Amjad Amin Butt, Secretary General, Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, Muhammad Arshad Sattar, Secretary General , Pakistan Wrestling Federation, Manzoor ul Hasan Sr, Former Olympian Hockey, Inam Butt, Wrestler, Muhammad Bilal , Wrestler, Talha Talib, Weightlifter, Qualified for Tokyo 2020, Afshan Nooreen, Hockey player, members of the Office of Participant Affairs and students.

The workshop commenced with an introductory note by the moderator, who explained the significance of the day, its history and the Olympics movement. She welcomed the athletes who took out time from their busy schedules and graced the event with their presence. An awareness session was organized to educate the attendees about the history of the association and the motto behind Olympism.

Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, Secretary General POA in his address highlighted how he wished to uplift the stature of sports in Pakistan as well as to bring the Olympics medal home in the coming times. Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob, Chief Guest and Vice President POA in his address stated that sports is not about winning alone but encourages youngsters to participate and make peace and friendship with their peers and contemporaries.

A chat with the champ session was also arranged for attendees in which guest players talked about their individual sporting journeys and how they conquered their fears to accomplish their sporting goals.

Abid H K Sherwani, Director General UMT in his thank-you note said that the need of the hour is to make sports a vital part of the education system. He congratulated the team members of the Office of Participant Affairs for their efforts and later distributed souvenirs among the guests.
