Thursday, January 12 2017

The Punjab Commission on the Status on Women is a statutory body of the Government  of Punjab working for the promotion of women’s rights. Punjab Commission on the Status of Women Act of 2014 mandates the Commission to examine policies, programs and other measures taken by the Government to materialize gender equality, empowerment of women and their representation, and make suitable recommendations to concerned authorities.

The Chief Minister’s Special Monitoring Unit, Punjab Commission on the Status of Women and Punjab Safe Cities Authority have launched a Women Safety Smart Phone Application which is one of a kind initiative of the Punjab Government. The Smart Phone Application enables women to report an incident of harassment or distressing situation at any place and time with the click of a button. The Smart Phone Application will allow women to notify the Police Integrated Command, Control and Communication (PPIC3) officials regarding the kind of harassment they are subjected to along with their exact geographic location. The App has been comprehensively designed to allow women to report any experiences that render the public space unsafe.

The Women Safety Smart Phone Application also features the PCSW ‘1043’ helpline that will provide women with all the law related queries and to lodge complaints in case of any discrimination or inaction on behalf of the government institutions. The App is connected to SMU’s Women-on-Wheels campaign which provides free motorcycle trainings to women to ensure access to law enforcement agencies for any women registered as Women-on-Wheels trainees and graduates.
