OCLP Hosts Focus Group Discussions for the School of Engineering

The Office of Corporate Linkages and Placements (OCLP) at the University of Management and Technology (UMT) hosted Focus Group Discussions on “Emerging World of Work and Importance of COOP (Cooperative-Education) Program” exclusively for the School of Engineering (SEN). The COOP is a structured program with a blend of theory and practice, which is a cyclic process in which students of UMT will be taken on board by the industry for a period of 6 months to 1 year.
Dr Tahir Mahmood Hayat, Chief Executive of Diamer Basha Consultants Group was the chief guest of the event. The program was attended by Dr Asif Raza (Rector UMT), Dr Syed Ali Rizwan (Dean SEN), Khalid Naqi (Director OCLP), Saira Iqbal Khan (Chief Disruption Officer, ICDF Think Tank at OCLP), faculty of School of Engineering, and students.
Participating organizations included Nespak, JW Fortland, Diamond Denim Sapphire, Copper GAT Cables Pvt Ltd, Roshan Packages, and Interloop. The event started with a brief on the newly introduced Cooperative-Education Program followed by a high-impact skit performance by the students of UMT Drama Club.
The faculty of the School of Engineering had one-to-one discussions with the industry to find the missing gaps and bridge the Industry-Academia ties. Moreover, the top-performing engineering students pitched their credentials to the industry.
A podcast was arranged for advocating the true nexus of continuous Industry-Academia linkages and to synchronize the minds of the stakeholders. This podcast allowed the stakeholders to talk their hearts out and identify the key areas of work to produce work-ready graduates.
At the end of the event, Rector UMT Dr Asif Raza presented a souvenir to Dr Tahir Mahmood Hayat, and representatives from other prestigious organizations were also given souvenirs as a token of appreciation.
