Delegation from French Higher Education Visits UMT

A diplomatic delegation from the French Embassy Islamabad headed by Sébastien Cartier, Higher Education Attaché, and Stephane Gaillard, Director, French Center, Lahore, visited UMT Campus and met Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Rector UMT, on February 2, 2017. The delegation took a keen interest in UMT’s comprehensive quality education program and vibrant research culture. They said that they were incredibly impressed to learn about various degree programs, faculty strength, and facilities provided to the students in the varsity. They said the purpose of their visit was to connect UMT with its top-tier French counterparts for educational, social and cultural cooperation between Pakistan and France. The head of the delegation Cartier briefed the Rector about a number of opportunities like scholarships, summer programs for the students and faculty grooming projects available in the French universities and other European countries. He also talked about French language classes to be started at UMT and the promotion of the culture of both the countries. The delegation said that French Embassy was looking forward to sponsoring the research projects in the areas of engineering education, energy, water, agriculture, and climate change.

Sharing his views, Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad said that UMT was eager to establish strong relations with French and other universities of the European Union based on strategic objectives. He said that engineering education in France was outclass and UMT would like to benefit from the partnership with only selected universities, which work for sustainable human development. He also added that a good number of institutions from the United States had joined hands with UMT in the areas of mutual interest. Dr Murad offered the delegation with full support and facilitation in case French professors joined UMT for short or long period. He assured the delegation that UMT faculty would systematically collaborate with French researchers in delving into the areas of archeology, anthropology, architecture and in the health sector. The Rector said that the UMT faculty, as well as the students, wanted to enhance French cause, explore more about the history of the French nation, their culture and modern lifestyle.
