5th Global Forum on Islamic Economics, Finance and Banking

UMT continues the legacy of Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad by hosting the 5th Global Forum on Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance 2020. Dr Talat Hussain, Acting Dean Institute of Islamic Banking, welcomed Dr Muhammad Aslam, Rector UMT along with the esteemed national and international guests. He gave a brief note on the vision of IIB. The theme of the Global Forum was to discuss the Islamic economics model of Riyasat e Madina and its implementation.

Dr Sheila Yusuf from International Islamic University, Malaysia was of the view that scholars need to embrace change and work together in order to attain the ideal state of Riyasat e Madina. She extended her gratitude to IIB for organizing such an insightful event. Ahmad Ali Sheikh, Senior Executive, Vice President, Head Compliance Department, Meezan Bank blatantly rejected the Western model of economics calling it a failure. He wished for academicians to take Jinnah’s vision forth of understanding the Western model but adopting the Islamic model.

Maulana Fazal ur Raheem, Jamia Ashrafia commended the efforts of all the institutions for working together in order to diminish ribah. Muhammad Mahmood Shah Khan, Assistant Professor HSM, proposed that by adapting Islamic banking, the economy of the country will grow rapidly. Dr Muhammad Aslam thanked Dr Sheila Yusuf for taking the time out to be a part of this enlightening gathering. He appreciated the efforts of IIB on organizing yet another successful Global Forum. Souvenirs were presented to the distinguished guests.
