  Introduction

The School of Professional Advancement (SPA) has been established to provide a technological base for upward mobility and professional growth of individuals who are engaged in various professional fields. According to recent estimates and forecasts, all professionals will have to continuously learn new knowledge and skills in order to retain their jobs in a technology driven market. The information technology has transformed both life and the work environment to the extent that a new breed of human resource is required to survive in a highly vibrant and competitive economy. The ever changing nature of job market exerts tremendous socio-psychological pressure on professionals to adapt to changing job requirements.

A desire to move upward on a career ladder is a human instinct not necessarily driven by changes in the job market. A career shift is quite natural phenomenon when chances of promotion on a job are dried out. Moving from one job to another in a high tech society is, however, not an easy job. Unless sufficient training resources and support is made available and affordable such transitions do not take place. Unfortunately, the seats of learning are not paying due attention on this immediate need. The public money needs reallocation to support early efforts to develop and improve human resource.

University of Management and Technology is a leading seat of higher studies with a futuristic vision and uncompromising commitment for quality education. School of Professional Advancement is planning to offer a host of new learning opportunities for those who do not necessarily fit in the admission criteria of regular programs or who cannot afford prolonged time and fiscal commitment although they may be highly motivated for short courses at an affordable cost. SPA strives to achieve the following objectives;

  1. Identify education and training gaps that must be filled for smooth transition of our agrarian society into information society.
  2. Offer courses for professional advancement at affordable price and in a flexible learning environment.
  3. Act as a service provider for the transfer of knowledge and skills from internal and external sources to the needful.
  4. Create a learner friendly environment to accommodate human diversity so that they can continue learning irrespective of age, gender, class and place.
  5. Bridge a gap between regular degree programs and short courses in order to facilitate diverse career needs.
