CAMPUS PROJECT- PROFILE

It was essential for UMT to undertake construction of a purpose-built campus housing all academic departments in a campus worthy of its status as a premier institution for higher education. The construction of a purpose-built campus is a response to this need. The first phase of the 20 acres purpose built campus in Johar town, Lahore has been completed and all academic as well as administrative departments and faculties have been shifted to the new campus.

The campus master plan incorporates all the essential features of a modern University meeting international standards and offers excellent facilities for teaching and learning. It comprises state-of the-art laboratories, academic blocks, library, auditorium, student teacher centre, engineering laboratories, library/research and development block, gymnasium, faculty apartments and separate hostel accommodation for male and female students.

Phase-I was primarily based on an Academic Block with utilities and supplies, which has been complete at a cost of Rupees 300 Million. Land was acquired at a cost of Rupees 100 Million. Phase-II would cost Rupees 583 Million and Phase-III Rupees 830 Million. We are now commencing Phase-II and hope to be in a position to start the final phase by June 2009.

The range of programs being offered by the University has been widened to include areas of specialization that would open up greater opportunities for our graduates in the job markets at home and abroad. Some of the new degree programs introduced are in the areas of human resource management, media and communications, applied linguistics, industrial management, project management and e-commerce. All academic and non-academic activities engineer positive social change and are extremely beneficial to society in terms of human resource development. At UMT there has been a marked growth in demand for services, which directly support the learning and research needs of students.

The technologically sophisticated building of library which is intended to be constructed at the commencement of Phase-II of the campus Master Plan will carry library services forwarded for fifty years down the road.  The building will have wired and wireless access rooms to the campus network and web; seminars and study rooms equipped with electronic information access. To achieve the goal of attracting students and other learners, the building will be inclusive of a number of study rooms, comfortable seating areas, Islamic research center, gender learning center and language lab. New arrivals and exhibition area, periodical section, clipping room, digital library, variety of study spaces, quiet study carrels and much more would be there to support our valued members.  A coffee shop, heated and cool environment, researchers' rooms, would be key features of building. In addition to library’s electronic conference room a computer lab will be developed. Interested people and organizations would be invited to join hands with UMT in the completion of this worthwhile project, which will be of lasting value to the country and people of Pakistan, as well as visiting scholars, and to the scholarship in the world at large through virtual environment.
