The first QA Workshop for Private Sector Universites is being organized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and the University of Management and Technology, Lahore jointly. The Objectives of this workshop are:

Introduce Self Assessment of academic programs. |

Establish Quality Enhancement Cells. |

Capacity building - training of trainers. |
This workshop comprises of individual presentations, group discussions, group assignments and panel discussion.
Copies of power point presentations made by resource persons are provided for assistance to the participants during the workshop and reference later on.

School of Professional Advancement (SPA) set up at UMT |
| |
A new School of Professional Advancement (SPA) has been set up on the approval of Board of Governors (BOG) and recommendation of the Academic Council in its fifth meeting held on August 19, 2006 vide Resolution No10. Dr Abdul Hameed has been appointed as Director of SPA. Dr Abdul Hameed earned his PhD from Ohio State University USA and has 27 years of teaching and research experience at the University of the Punjab.
SPA will offer various diploma/ certificate courses to provide a technological base for upward mobility and professional growth of individuals who are engaged in various professional fields. It will create new learning opportunities for those who do not necessarily fit in the admission criteria of regular programs or who cannot afford prolonged time and fiscal commitment. |

Broad Band Facility for Faculty, Students and Staff Members |
| |
The Higher Education Commission has taken a number of initiatives for broadening the reach of Information Technology to meet the IT challenges of the country, especially for the education sector. The Higher Education Commission has recently signed a MoU with PTCL for the provisioning of Broadband DSL connections to students, faculty members and administrative staff at substantially subsidized rates at their residence. This DSL facility/service under this MoU offers Broadband connection at 256 kbps, 512 kbps and 1 Mbps with a 30% discount on prevailing PTCL commercial rates against each capacity.
The students, faculty members and staff of university can avail this opportunity and benefit from this HEC’s exclusive offer. Applicants can apply online and once the application is submitted by the applicant, it will be forwarded via email to the Registrar for verification. Currently this facility is only available in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad/Rawalpindi. As soon as PTCL open this facility for other cities, website will be updated accordingly.

UMT students awarded
HEC-Japanese Need-Based Scholarships |

It is a matter of great pride for the University of Management and Technology (UMT) that two of its outstanding students have been awarded Japanese Need-Based Scholarships. Afzal Khan (ID 060234015) and Ahmad Rusal (ID 063832032), students of MBA Evening and MBA Professional programs respectively, have qualified for these scholarships.

Lahore School of Economics Sports Club is organizing Inter University Sports Championship 2007, Football, Badminton and Table Tennis. The Tournament is going to be held from Oct.29-Nov. 3, 2007 at the Lahore School of Economics, Burki Campus.

UMT-EMU Student-Faculty Linkage Program |

This to share with all of you that Dr.A.Rashid Kuasar, on his recent visit to US, has successfully concluded a Student-Faculty Linkage agreement with the College of Business, Eastern Michigan, USA.

The agreement includes a provision for student enrollment (both at undergraduate and graduate levels) for a semester/or upto one year studies at EMU and establishing of "Virtual" Doctoral Committeees to enhance the MS/Ph.D programm at UMT.
